Working with Shakira and Finneas, “MAANA SER BONITO,” and Letting Go by Karo G

Do not for a second believe that Karol G’s new album was inspired by derision or pain, despite the fact that it included “TQG,” her acclaimed post-breakup collaboration with Shakira. Instead, Karol G’s new song, Maana Será Bonito, which translates to “Tomorrow Will Be Beautiful,” is available today on Universal Music Latino. Karol G calls this time “real and honest, now more than ever.”

Karol G has released an album that features many of those smash hits as well as a slew of surprises. She is coming off the highest-grossing 2022 tour for a Latin woman as well as a number of milestones, including being the first woman to hold Nos. 1 and 2 simultaneously on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart since Selena in 1995. Fans and critics alike have been waiting patiently for her collaboration with Shakira. Other highlights include the lovely title tune, which surprisingly features the soulful/alternative Carla Morrison in a mellow reggaetón groove, and the incredibly seductive “X Si Volvemos” with Romeo Santos.

The pressure was on for Karol G to put up a good performance after being hailed as the leading female in Latin music for a year, and especially following the enormous success of 2021’s KG0516. Using a bold reggaetón and electronic palette and relying on instantly recognizable yet sophisticated lyrics, Maana Será Bonito aims to cover the many sides of Karol G with assistance from longtime producer and collaborator Ovy on the Drums and an intriguing list of guest artists that also includes Spanish rapper Quevedo and Panama’s Sech.
The Colombian diva spoke candidly with Billboard about the significance of this moment, why being a bichota isn’t always a good thing, and, yes, how that Shakira collaboration came about.

In a profession like this, everything you do becomes significant. But without a doubt, I worked hard for many years to reach a point where I could show off, where I could, so to say, elevate the feminine genre and powerfully represent us. And I believe that this is it because I’ve managed to attract attention and put myself in a position where people are looking for me. Yet, I didn’t make this record with that in mind; instead, I just composed music.
